To the developers: You are on a winner here. It has played all of my movies in various formats without a hitch: mkv. Sure, it doesn’t play back in 3D, but it stills plays the movie in 2D with subtitles, perfect audio and no stuttering. I have tested MBRP with ISOs of BD and BD 3D and it works beautifully. This program is BRILLIANT! It has played everything flawlessly, and I mean everything! No need to use a virtual drive in order to mount the ISOs as the other software requires.

But then I stumbled on a web page for Mac Blu Ray Player (MBRP). But I didn’t want to have to tell my family members, “When you want to play BD, use this program, when you want to play mkv, use this program …” I had to buy all three in order to achieve my aim. I have taken extensive notes over a period of three weeks of testing on and off and I came to the conclusion that not one of them was worth buying.

With all of the programs, I had to use a virtual drive to mount the BD ISO image file before playing the movie. Others failed to open a particular movie. Others did well with BD but not with mkv files or. Some of the programs stuttered when playing back the BD movie. My aim was to test the above software and decide which one to buy. My grandson has destroyed a lot of my DVD and Blu Ray discs so I have taken to ripping them to my hard drives. I set up my Mac Mini to run Boot Camp so that I can try out three supposedly great Blu Ray playing programs: WinDVD Pro 11, PowerDVD 12 and Total Media Theatre.
